Well.
It didn't go QUITE as planned thanks to past misinformation (damn u, governments!). We had the wrong affidavit of support from my parents (one apparently intended for fiances rather than spouses but it was not really stated anywhere...) also...
I discovered that "establishing domicile" is more than just having an address to go to. So I had to quickly pack my bags, call my parentals, and make a flight to Houston. So my hubby is in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada still, and I have taken up residence in the guest bedroom of my parents' north Houston home.
I got here Wednesday.
I've been doing applications all over the place.
When did web design become part of a graphic designer's job description, along with video production? Every job posting for a graphic designer that I found required these things, and they weren't in the major when I was on college. And that was like 3.5 years ago only. Things changed.
Anyway, annoying as it is that I am having trouble relying on my not-really-old-actually degree to get a job, I have been applying left and right to department stores, retail trains, and I went to University of Houston today to get information on what a girl has to do to be listed as independent from her parents so that she is eligible for the financial aid she will require. (I'll be on that more this coming week when the financial aid office is open.)
So please do wish me luck; in order to bring Andrew into the country and get him his green card I need a job, and then a bank account, be accepted into uni with proper financial support (a good way for a gal my age to prove long term plans to stay in a city/state/country) cell phones (my own contact number) and luckily I already changed my driver's license, and registered to vote (So that helps.)
I appreciate any warm fuzzies coming my way in this.
For now I just will focus on these things. My art supplies arrive Tuesday (that I shipped with UPS) so I will start painting soon again. <3 At least I have my paperwork to keep me company until then. *sigh*
For now, an old very large canvas sits in the back of a storage closet here from highschool. I believe I am going to go grab my gesso (it was forgotten in the UPS box and so rode in my checked bags with my large gessoing brush) and sneak into the garage to raid Dad's sandpaper and get it ready for oils, as terrified of it as I am. (I always work very very small even though I admire and want to try large works.)
